Starting Your Fitness Journey: Where to Begin

fitness Sep 26, 2022

You've decided you want to get fit, and that's amazing! Getting healthy is one of the best decisions you can make for yourself. But, like most people, you probably don't know where to start. There's so much information out there, and it's hard to know what's right for you.

At least, that was my experience when I first began my fitness journey. For years I hopped from one fad diet to another. The moment I made the decision to become fit from the inside out, I knew that it would require me to think and act differently.

Luckily, I figured it out, and I’m here to help you do the same. I'll give six tips for starting your fitness journey in this article.

1. Set Attainable Fitness Goals.

The first step in starting your fitness journey is to set attainable goals. It's essential to be realistic about what you can achieve in a given time frame. If you set unrealistic goals, you're setting yourself up for disappointment and frustration. Instead, focus on setting attainable goals that motivate you to keep going.

2. Start an Exercise Routine You Enjoy.

You will not stick with your workout if you're not enjoying it. That's why it's so important to find an activity that you enjoy. Whether hiking, biking, swimming, or something else entirely, make sure it's something that won't feel like a chore.

3. Start Slow and Build up Gradually.

Another mistake people make when starting their fitness journey is jumping in too deep, too fast. They try to do too much too soon and end up getting injured or burnt out quickly. Remember, it takes time to see results, so start slowly and gradually build up. You'll be more likely to stick with it if you do!

4. Find a Workout Buddy.

Working out with a friend or family can make the whole process more enjoyable (and less daunting). It also holds you accountable - it's harder to skip a workout when someone is counting on you to be there!

5. Seek Professional Help if Needed.

If you're just starting your fitness journey, chances are you don't need a personal trainer or nutritionist. However, if you have any specific health concerns or injuries, it's always a good idea to seek professional help before starting any new exercise routine. That way, you can ensure you do everything safely and correctly from the beginning.

6. Listen to Your Body.

Finally, listening to your body throughout your fitness journey is essential. Everyone is different and will progress at different rates. Some days will be more complex than others, but as long as you listen to your body and do not push yourself too hard, you'll be just fine!
