How do you practice mindful eating when you're working from home? If you're one of the millions of people who started working remotely in 2020, you know all-too-well that the massive transition to remote work resulted in highs, such as better work-life balance and lows, like an increase in snacking. 

Whether you're looking to get in control of your eating habits or have more energy to get through your workday, implementing mindful eating habits is one of the best things you can do when working from home. 

That's why in this post, I'm sharing three ways you can practice mindful eating while working from home.


3 Ways to Practice Mindful Eating When Working From Home

1. Create a Daily Routine 

One way to thrive as a mindful eater when working from home is having routines. This is especially important if you didn't work from home prior to 2020. Having a daily routine isn't just a way to stay productive, but gives you something that you can do instead of mindlessly snacking. 

Let me be clear that having a daily routine doesn't mean that you need to do the same thing every day. Rather find ways to incorporate variety into your daily routine the way you likely did when you weren't working from home.

In doing so, you're creating habits that will help you eat more mindfully during your workday.


2. Maintain Consistent Meal Times

Another important aspect of eating mindfully while working from home is maintaining consistent meal times. One of the reasons that you might find yourself snacking is that you're eating in between meals. While a late afternoon snack might not be an issue when you're working in an office when you're working from home you want to avoid taking frequent trips to the kitchen. 

By creating consistent meal times you're giving yourself permission to stop what you're doing and eat. Even though you might have worked through lunch in the office, that's not going to fly when the office becomes your living room. 

Taking time to step away from your desk and enjoy your meals will help you better recognize when you're hungry so that you can stop eating when you're full.


3. Schedule in Movement

An essential habit to maintain that will help you eat mindfully when you're working from home is incorporating daily movement. If working from home has become a part of your new normal it's a good chance that you're moving less than you were before. 

That's why intentionally scheduling in daily movement is essential. That might mean blocking off time to enjoy a morning walk with the dog, an afternoon run with your neighbor, or an evening bike ride with the kids.

Whatever you decide, making time for daily movement is a great way to release that anxiety we often feel when working from home through movement rather than eating.
